It is defined as the systematic and scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to establish or maintain good health. Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. It is highly effective for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Communication during the session is crucial to ensure that you don’t get too uncomfortable. Soreness is common after the treatment, and you should drink plenty of water to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins released from deep tissue during the session.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. It is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and promoting the body’s natural immune function.
TMJ Syndrome is an umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the mandible to the skull. The disorder can cause significant pain and impairment. The signs and symptoms of TMJ disorder vary in their presentation and can be very complex, including biting or chewing difficulty, clicking or popping, dull, aching pain in the face, earache, ringing in the ears (Tinnitus), headache, migraine, and reduced ability to open the mouth. Factors contributing to TMJ include Bruxism (repetitive unconscious clenching or grinding of teeth), jaw thrusting, excessive gum chewing or nail biting, size of foot bites eaten, and trauma. Stress is often the major contributor to TMJ pain and discomfort. My treatment approach to TMJ uses Myofascial Release techniques to free the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, and bones of the jaw.
Connective Tissue Massage primarily focuses on the connective tissue, the linking system of all our cells. Like a spider’s web, connective tissue runs throughout the body, binding us together. Constantly changing its viscosity and integrity, it is a dynamic area that is responsive to messages from external and internal receptors and plays a vital role in the transportation, repair, adaptation, and defense of our tissues. Changes in the connective tissue are often the result of an illness, physical injury, or emotional distress. For example, stress is capable of disturbing the mineral balance of the tissue, leading to a gelatinous thickening of the tissue while compromising the vital flow of water, nutrients, and nerve supply, thus impeding neuromuscular conduction.
